- It features questions that provide personalised guidance and direct users to support resources based on their responses - The MGA designed the tool following consultations with Caritas Malta, Agenzija Sedqa, OASI Foundation and the Responsible Gaming Foundation to ensure effectiveness The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has introduced a new self-assessment tool designed to help individuals assess their gambling behavior and determine whether it may be causing harm. The initiative is part of the regulator’s ongoing work to promote safer gambling and strengthen player protection measures. The self-assessment tool consists of a set of questions that allow users to reflect on their gambling habits and understand potential risks. Based on the responses, the tool guides next steps and directs users to available support services. The questionnaire is available in both English and Maltese, ensuring accessibility for local and international users. According to the MGA, the tool is intended to assist individuals in identifying signs of problematic gambling early and to encourage self-awareness before issues escalate. The Authority emphasised that the initiative complements other responsible gambling measures already in place, such as self-exclusion programs and operator obligations to monitor player behavior. Development of the tool followed consultations held during Safer Gambling Week, where the MGA engaged with organisations including Caritas Malta, Agenzija Sedqa, the OASI Foundation, and the Responsible Gaming Foundation. These discussions helped refine the content to make it more effective and relevant for a diverse user base. Good to know: Earlier this year, the MGA outlined its updated regulatory oversight approach for 2025, emphasising continued improvement of supervision processes and engagement with licensed operators The Authority stated that the introduction of the self-assessment tool aligns with its broader commitment to safeguard players while promoting an environment of transparency and responsibility across the Maltese gambling sector. It also reflects ongoing efforts to integrate prevention and early intervention mechanisms within the MGA’s regulatory framework. The self-assessment tool is now available through the MGA’s official website, marking another step in the Authority’s player protection strategy.
